The last several months have been insanely busy. I've been working a full time job, starting my own business, being a wife to my husband, a mother to my new daughter and attending family and social engagements on holidays and weekends over the summer. It has felt like I have only been home long enough to drop my current "stuff" and gather and pack new stuff to take to my next destination, meanwhile catching a few hours of sleep and an occasional meal.
The accumulation of several months' junk recently caught up with me. I looked around my house, at the piles and piles of miscellaneous stuff in every room. Aside from about 20 loads of laundry that needed to be done, I had stuff piled everywhere; and not where it belonged. My daughter's nursery was housing a saxophone (which being that she is 11 months isn't hers), leftover gifts from Christmas (which was 9 months ago), piles of clothes that didn't fit her anymore, and another pile or two of clothes that didn't fit her yet. My living room bookshelves contained a bottle of power steering fluid, vitamins, face cream, greeting cards, old checkbook registers and receipts, tax receipts from last year and a pink rubber ducky. Clearly, I needed to fix things in my house.
Okay, so I knew there was a lot to be done... But I was paralyzed in my inability to get started. Where do you even begin to tackle a project the size of Mount Everest?!?! This job needed more than I could offer. So, I called in an expert. Heather came in, assessed what needed to be done and dug right in. Our focus for the day was to tackle my daughters room. We pulled everything out to sort, relocated the items that didn't belong in the room, filled my car with things to donate, sorted everything that was going into storage and re-defined how we would use the space in the room. By the time we were done for the day, the only thing left was the laundry (all sorted and with a plan for where it went afterward).
My husband, who had been at work the whole day, came home and was absolutely amazed. He spent a full 10 minutes walking around our daughter's room, opening drawers, peeking into corners, and investigating the new layout. He couldn't believe how much we had accomplished in just one day, and he loved all of Heather's storage recommendations. It felt so good to have one room completely in order. Today my daughter's room, tomorrow the world! Heather was a wealth of knowledge and good tips, she was methodical in her process and got the job done. The accomplishment of the day has inspired us to take on the rest of the house room by room. I feel so FREE now!!
